Pikes Peak-Winning Former Tesla Engineer Is Trying to Make the World’s Fastest Track Car

Robin Shute, a four-time winner of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, knows a thing or two about dominating the mountain. To take his record-breaking machine to the next level, Shute’s team is building a new, bespoke car designed to crush not just Pikes Peak’s overall record, but also track records around the world. Inspired by the fictional Red Bull X2010, the new car promises to be a beast.
Shute’s team, The Sendy Club, has uploaded a video to YouTube detailing their design philosophy. Shute, who has worked at Tesla, Faraday Future, and Roborace, has a deep understanding of what it takes to win at Pikes Peak. He and his team have been modifying their Wolf GB08 prototype for years, but they’ve reached the limit of what they can achieve with that car. The new machine is a clean slate, built from the ground up with a single goal in mind: to be the fastest possible Pikes Peak racer.
Shute outlines some of the limitations of the Wolf, which will be addressed in the new car. It will be a tail-heavy, rear-wheel-drive car with 65% rear weight bias, much more optimized aero, and a dedicated single-seat design. A new engine is also on the cards, but candidates weren’t disclosed.
The car’s overall shape bears a striking resemblance to the Red Bull X2010, a fictional car designed by renowned aerodynamicist Adrian Newey. Shute admits in the comments section that the car “might have been an inspiration.” We’ll keep an eye on Shute’s YouTube channel for developments, and we suggest anyone with eyes on course records anywhere does too.
