Get Ready for Tomb Raider Remastered: Exciting Update for IV-VI Drops in 2025
The Unloved Middle Child: "Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered" Revives a Flawed Trilogy
The once-underrated "Tomb Raider" series is getting a second chance at life, thanks to Crystal Dynamics and Aspyr’s "Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered" collection. This new remaster promises to refine the gameplay, visuals, and overall quality of the second trilogy of games, which includes "Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation," "Tomb Raider: Chronicles," and "Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness."
A Troubled Time for Tomb Raider
The "Tomb Raider 4-6" trilogy, developed by Core Design, was met with mixed reviews and even sparked rumors of a reboot. The series had reached a creative bottleneck, with many fans expressing disappointment with the direction the franchise had taken. It’s almost as if the series was trying to kill its own protagonist, Lara Croft. But with Aspyr’s remaster, players may finally get to experience these games with a fresh coat of paint.
Challenging Times
Developing the fourth, fifth, and sixth "Tomb Raider" games were no easy feat. Core Design faced numerous delays and technical issues, which were reflected in the games’ quality and critical reception. The Last Revelation, Chronicles, and Angel of Darkness received mixed-to-negative reviews. After a trying experience, the franchise was eventually rebooted by Crystal Dynamics, starting with "Tomb Raider: Legend" in 2006.
A New Beginning
Aspyr’s remaster, like their previous work on "Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered," offers a chance to relive these games with updated graphics, controls, and quality-of-life changes. The studio’s attention to detail could give fans a more enjoyable experience, especially for those who were initially turned off by the series’ uneven quality. Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered will be available on February 14, 2025, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, priced at $29.99.

Marking Milestones
This announcement comes as the franchise celebrates two milestones: the 27th anniversary of the series and the 100 million units sold mark. Additionally, the Netflix animated series "Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft" has debuted, offering a new take on the iconic character. But for now, fans of the series can look forward to the revival of this sometimes-unloved trilogy.
