Savings On Car Toys the Youth Desperately Needs
Most of my adult life has been spent working in the car industry in one way or another. You’d think I would be sick of it by now. But, I’m not. I still fill my free time with car stuff, along with my house. My son and I have enough Lego kits to sink a battleship—I have no idea what that means either. Still, I keep buying more, and savings on car toys, in general, keep getting the best of me.
STEAM, (Science Technology Engineering Art Math) toys are an essential part of raising a scientific and technically literate generation. It is indeed the cure to social media zombies. Speaking of, have you guys checked out our new Drive Garage TikTok channel yet? No seriously, we’re trying to build something over there and we’d appreciate your help. With enough support, we can bring real car and technical content to you on social media.
For today’s deals, not only did I find discounts on Lego car kits, but I also found discounts on slot car tracks from Carrera. It’s one of the best in the business. If you want something realistic, go for the Carrera GO!!! Podium Set for $80 which includes Corvette and Viper race cars. If you want something your kids might be more interested in, the Carrera GO!!! Mario Kart Race Track Set is just $95. I know. Some of you just gasped at “just $95” for a slot car set. But Gran Turismo for PS5 is 70 bucks, for ones and zeros.
Back to Lego. I’ve included a full price range here. We have a Lambo, a Bugatti, and a GT500, all of which are under $40. There’s also a 1:12 scale Ford GT for $96. That is a good-sized Technic set with lots of technical details, providing insight into how the real car functions. If you want to get even bigger and nerdier, the Technic Peugeot 9X8 24H Le Mans Hybrid Kit will get you deep into the guts of the engine and suspension of the real thing.
Speaking of getting elbow-deep into the nerdiness, this 1/10 Metal OHV L4 Diesel Engine Model Building Kit is all metal and probably the most detailed scale engine I’ve seen for less than a grand. It’s still 350 bucks. So, if you want to spend less and still get most of the experience, the classic see-through V8 from Revell is on sale for $75. As far as I can see from some brief research, this kit was first made in 1958 by Renwal Model Company. In 1975, Revell Models began producing it in the form we see today. I will warn you, if you want it to run smoothly, you will need to put some work into it. But that’s the point, right?
