Steam Fans Rejoice: Valve Finally Brings Steam Deck to Australia’s Gaming Landscape

The Steam Deck is Finally Coming to Australia!

This November, gamers in Australia can finally get their hands on the Steam Deck, Valve’s highly-anticipated portable gaming console.

The Steam Deck will be available in three configurations: a 256GB original LCD model, a 512GB and 1TB OLED model, and a 1TB OLED model with longer battery life, a better screen, and more. The prices will be AUD $649, $899, and $1,049 respectively.

Is the OLED Model Worth the Extra Cost?

While the OLED model is AU$250 more than the original LCD model, it offers several significant upgrades that make it worth considering. In my opinion, I’d recommend the OLED model to anyone who can afford it, thanks to its improved performance and features.

Will We See New Steam Deck Models in the Future?

However, even the OLED model will be almost a year old by the time it arrives in Australia, and there’s currently no indication that Valve plans to release faster or better versions anytime soon. In fact, no handheld running Windows can currently match the Steam Deck for portable ease-of-use, despite some having an edge in performance.

What’s Next for Steam OS?

That being said, Valve may bring its SteamOS to rival handhelds like the Asus ROG Ally X before too many more months pass. I was impressed with the SteamOS interface on my Ally X review unit, despite some minor issues.

Try the Steam Deck at PAX Australia

If you’re attending PAX Australia in Melbourne, you can try out the Steam Deck at Valve’s booth today and see for yourself what all the fuss is about.
