YouTube Creators Unite: New Discord-Like Communities Rolling Out

YouTube Expands Community Space Feature to More Creators

Connect with Fans without Leaving YouTube

YouTube is giving creators more opportunities to connect with their fans by expanding the availability of its dedicated community space feature. This feature allows creators to engage with their audience without relying on external platforms like Discord. The community space is accessible only through mobile devices, offering a unique way for creators to share updates, announcements, and more with their fans.

How it Works

Communities, which first launched during the Made for YouTube event last fall, enable creators to write posts with images and text, while fans can start discussions. Creators can monitor and moderate their community hub in the YouTube Studio app, which combines activity from their channel. They can also offer suggestions for replies to fans. This feature is designed to keep creators and their fans connected within the YouTube ecosystem.

A New Name for the Community Tab

YouTube is also renaming its existing Community tab to Posts to avoid confusion with the new Communities feature. The tab will function as it does today, allowing creators to share updates and announcements, and viewers to engage by commenting on those posts.

Invitation and Enablement

Creators will receive an invitation to access Communities via email and a banner on their channel pages on the YouTube app. Once invited, they can enable the features by clicking “Go to Community” and learning more about the community space.
