WhatsApp Unveils Beta Update: Status Mention Feature Now Live for Android Users
What’s New in WhatsApp: Status Update Mentions and More
Introducing Status Update Mentions in WhatsApp Beta
WhatsApp has been working on a new feature called Status update mentions, and it’s finally available for beta users on Android. This feature allows you to mention contacts in your Status updates, similar to Instagram. But what does it mean, and how does it work?
How to Mention Contacts in Your Status Updates
To mention a contact in your Status update, simply click the ‘@’ button next to the caption bar when sharing a photo or video via a Status update. This will notify the mentioned contact and allow them to reshare your Status with their audience.
The Power of Resharing
When a contact is mentioned in your Status update, they’ll receive a notification and can choose to reshare it with their own followers. To do this, they’ll see a reshare button next to the reply box when viewing the Status update they’re mentioned in. This means your message can reach a wider audience without you having to lift a finger!
Private Identity and Viewing Restrictions
However, there’s a twist. Unlike Instagram, the original creator’s identity will remain private when the mentioned contact reshares the Status. Additionally, the mentioned contact won’t be visible to your Status viewers. This ensures that your personal information remains private and out of reach.
Notification and Visibility
When a contact is mentioned in your Status update, they’ll receive a notification and will be able to see your Status, even if it’s excluded from viewing other Status updates through Status privacy settings.
When Will This Feature Be Available?
It’s unclear when WhatsApp will publicly release this feature, but beta testers can enroll in the beta program to get a head start. Keep an eye out for updates, and stay connected with your friends and family using WhatsApp!
