What is Fitbit Premium? The wearable subscription explained
Whether you’re an avid fitness enthusiast or just getting started in your journey, having in-depth information about your health data can be useful in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This is where Fitbit Premium comes in.
Keep reading to learn more about Fitbit Premium, its features, how much it costs and which devices you can find the app on.
What is Fitbit Premium?
While it’s free to sign up for a Fitbit account, Fitbit Premium is its paid-for extension that can be accessed on Fitbit and Google Pixel wearables and compatible iOS and Android smartphones.
Fitbit Premium is designed to offer you a more in-depth look at your health, by using data from your compatible fitness tracker to provide you with information and personalised content tailored to your body’s needs.
Included with Fitbit Premium is a workout library, recipes, mindfulness sessions and a daily readiness score which uses your Fitbit data to determine whether you should work out or prioritise recovery instead.
Runners will especially benefit from Fitbit Premium as it utilises Google AI to analyse your past runs, readiness and target cardio load in order to provide you with a customised workout recommendation. Google AI will even offer you insight on your running form and provide custom tips on how to improve.
Google has also recently announced a partnership with Peloton and, from September 2024, will begin rolling out a variety of Peloton workout classes, led by Peloton Instructors, onto Fitbit Premium.
How much does a Fitbit Premium membership cost?
A Fitbit Premium subscription costs £7.99/$9.99 per month or £79.99/$79.99 per year. However, if you have purchased a new Fitbit tracker, smartwatch or Google Pixel Watch 3 then you will receive six months Premium membership for free.
Fitbit Premium is also available with either the Premium or AI Premium Google One subscriptions. If you use Google One then this could be a great way to save money, as the subscription is £7.99/$9.99 per month for the Premium option.
What’s the difference between free Fitbit and Fitbit Premium?
Fitbit Premium is more in-depth than a basic Fitbit account. While the free Fitbit app has all the essential tools for you to begin to track your habits and insights, such as a heart rate sensor and fitness tracking modes, Fitbit Premium is able to offer you deeper insights and personalised tips based on your data.
For example, while you can receive scores for your sleep and stress management on the standard Fitbit app, Premium offers you a more detailed analysis, explaining why you received that score and what you can do to improve it.
Which devices support Fibit Premium?
The Fitbit app is compatible with most modern smartphones and tablets, as long as they are running on either iOS 15 or higher, or Android 10 or higher. As Huawei devices do not support Google services, none currently support Fitbit Premium.
Otherwise, the following wearables also support Fitbit Premium:
