Unveiling the Truth: Apple CarPlay 2’s Secret Launch Timeline and Unmet 2024 Deadline

Apple’s Next-Generation CarPlay: Still in the Works, Despite Delay
Apple’s next-generation CarPlay software is still on the horizon, despite missing its initial 2024 release target. The company has quietly removed the “2024” release date from its website, confirming the delay.
The wait may be frustrating for those eagerly anticipating the new CarPlay, but it’s not all bad news. Apple is still working closely with several automakers to bring the updated infotainment system to the masses.
In a statement, Apple highlighted the progress being made, stating, “The next generation of CarPlay builds on years of success and insights gained from CarPlay, delivering the best of Apple and the automaker in a deeply integrated and customizable experience.”
Each automaker will share more details as they near the announcements of their models that will support the next generation of CarPlay. Early demonstrations showed a revamped infotainment system with a second display that spans the width of the car dashboard, providing content for all screens in the car and deeper integration with the car’s systems.
Key features of the new CarPlay include:
* Vehicle functions like radio and temperature controls handled right from CarPlay
* Personalization options, such as widgets and curated gauge cluster designs, making it unique to the driver
What’s Holding Up the Release?
While Apple’s silence on the delay is understandable, it’s not the only factor at play. The company relies heavily on automakers to build cars with advanced displays that can interface with CarPlay. As such, the delay isn’t entirely Apple’s fault.
However, it’s good to know that “several” car makers are still on board with integrating the system, giving us an idea of what Apple had in mind for the cancelled car project.
