Unlocking the Mysterious Case of Big the Cat’s Troubling Cut from the Sonic Movie

Big the Cat’s Cameo Cut from Sonic the Hedgehog 2

As fans eagerly await the next installment in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie series, they can’t help but wonder when their beloved big cat, Big the Cat, will make an appearance. Well, it turns out that Big was almost a part of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, but ultimately didn’t make the cut.

According to Pat Casey and Josh Miller, the writing duo behind the Sonic films, a Big the Cat cameo was written for the previous movie, but was left on the cutting room floor. In an interview, Casey revealed that the duo had planned to include a skeleton of Big the Cat in a cave scene, where Sonic would have stumbled upon it. However, the sequence was ultimately cut due to it not making sense.

“It was a bit of a nod to Indiana Jones,” Casey explained. “You know, the trope where a skeleton pops out and scares you. So we were going to do that, but with a skeleton of a Big the Cat, not necessarily the Big the Cat we know and love.”

Miller chimed in, “Not necessarily the Big the Cat we know and love.”

Casey concluded, “But we ended up cutting it. It didn’t make any sense.”

While fans may be disappointed that Big the Cat didn’t make an appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, it’s clear that the writers had good intentions. And who knows, maybe Big will make a cameo in a future Sonic film.

Big the Cat has made appearances in various Sonic games and spin-offs over the years. Fans have celebrated his cameos in games like Sonic Frontiers, Sonic Racing, Sonic Prime, and even Lego Dimensions.
