Unlocking Seamless Charging with Free NACS Adapters: Hyundai’s Innovative EV Solution

Hyundai’s Gift to EV Owners: Free Charging Adapters for Tesla Superchargers

Are you a Hyundai electric vehicle (EV) owner looking to juice up on the go? Hyundai has got you covered this holiday season. In a move that’s sure to delight, the South Korean automaker has announced that it will start offering free North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters to current and new EV owners in the first quarter of 2025.

The Gift of Convenience

The new adapters will be available to current and new Hyundai EV owners who have purchased or leased their vehicle on or before January 31, 2025. These adapters will allow Hyundai EVs equipped with combined charging system (CCS) ports to access over 20,000 Tesla Superchargers in the US, making DC fast-charging more convenient than ever.

Unlocking the Power of Tesla Superchargers

According to Olabisi Boyle, senior vice president of product at Hyundai Motor North America, “To accelerate EV adoption, we started by listening to our current owners. These adapters will make DC fast-charging more convenient for current owners.” The NACS adapters will be compatible with all of Hyundai’s EVs available on the US market, including the Kona Electric, Ioniq hatchback, Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and more.

A Different Approach from Kia

While Hyundai is offering NACS adapters to a wide range of models, Kia is taking a different approach. Kia’s NACS to CCS adapters are only available to owners of the EV6 and EV9 models delivered after September 4, 2024. Earlier models, including the Niro EV, are not eligible for the adapters.

The Future of Charging

In a significant move, the new Hyundai 2025 Ioniq 5 will be the first non-Tesla vehicle to feature a native NACS port. Other new models, like the Ioniq 9, are also getting the native ports. However, Hyundai has warned that the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9 will initially charge slower with NACS on the Tesla Supercharger network compared to their CCS adapter. But don’t worry, this is due to the Supercharger network being upgraded in 2025.
