Unlocking AI’s Full Potential: OpenAI’s O3-Mini Reasoning Model Now Available to All

OpenAI’s o3-mini AI Model Lands in ChatGPT, Bringing Improved Reasoning Capabilities
What’s New in o3-mini?
OpenAI has finally released its highly anticipated o3-mini AI model to users on all ChatGPT plans, including the free tier. This new model is designed to bring improved reasoning capabilities, particularly in math, coding, and science. According to OpenAI, o3-mini “advances the boundaries of what small models can achieve” and responds 24% faster than its predecessor, o1-mini.
Reasoning Capabilities Take Center Stage
One of the standout features of o3-mini is its ability to show its workings above its responses, allowing users to check the thought processes involved. This feature is especially useful for complex math and science problems. Additionally, users can combine o3-mini’s reasoning capabilities with web searches, although this integration is still in its early stages.
Competition Heats Up in the AI Space
The release of o3-mini comes at a tumultuous time in the AI industry, with China’s DeepSeek offering free AI models that have attracted millions of users. OpenAI is now trying to regain the spotlight and attract users back to its platform.
Try o3-mini for Yourself
Free users can try o3-mini by selecting the “Reason” button under the message composer. For paying users, o3-mini can be selected from the model picker in the top left corner. Plus and Team plan users get 150 queries of o3-mini daily, while Pro plan users have unlimited access for a mere $200 per month.
More Power with o3-mini-high
Paying ChatGPT users also get access to an o3-mini-high model that applies the same reasoning skills but takes longer to think and respond. This model boosts performance even further, although users may need to wait a few extra seconds for responses.
Safety Assessments: A Key Priority
OpenAI has highlighted the safety assessments that o3-mini has undergone before its release. According to the company, o3-mini “significantly surpasses” the GPT-4o model when it comes to assessing unsafe use and jailbreak attempts.
