Unlock Your Games Library: Xbox Insiders Can Now Stream “Select” Owned Titles on Consoles
The Wait is Over: Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Subscribers Can Now Stream Owned Games to Xbox Conssoles
Finally, the day has arrived! Microsoft has announced that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can now stream a "select" number of their owned games to their Xbox Series X/S or Xbox One consoles, without the necessity of installation. This exciting news has been a long time coming, and we’re thrilled to see it finally available to Xbox Insiders. And, while this feature is still rolled out for all users, it’s a great step forward in the direction of cloud gaming.
The Road to Here
Remember when Microsoft first revealed plans to stream owned games in 2019? Initially, the feature was expected to launch alongside the Xbox Cloud Gaming platform in 2020. Unfortunately, it missed that target by a wide margin and then pushed the launch back to 2022. Two years later, the feature finally arrived, allowing Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to stream their games, not just those available on Game Pass, to a limited number of platforms.
Console Rollout
Fast-forward to now, and it’s a pleasant surprise to see the feature now available on Xbox consoles, despite the initial delay. For Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha rings with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions, this feature is available starting today. To access this new capability, head to My games & apps > Full library > Owned Games, look for the cloud badge on compatible titles, and select a game, then choose ‘Play with Cloud Gaming.’
The Current List of Compatible Games
The select number of supported titles is significant, with around 50 games currently compatible, mixing new and old blockbusters with critically acclaimed indie games. The list includes notable titles like Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars Outlaws, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, Life is Strange: Double Exposure, and many more. Microsoft promises that the library of cloud-playable titles will continue to grow as they work with their partners worldwide.
