Unlock Your Fastest Internet: NBN Co’s 600,000 Free Fibre Upgrades and How to Get the Next Update

NBN Co Delivers Solid Half-Year Results

The wait for faster internet speeds is almost over, with NBN Co’s fibre upgrade program delivering promising results. In its half-year report, the company reveals that 594,000 homes have already hopped on the bandwagon, with the goal of completing upgrades to all eligible premises by 2030.

Unlocking the Power of Fibre Upgrades

The fibre upgrade program has been in effect for just two and a half years, and in that time, 217,000 homes have made the switch to full-fat fibre to the premises (FTTP). This technology is capable of supporting the fastest NBN 1000 plans and the incoming 2Gbps tier, expected in September.

The Future of Fast Internet

A vast majority of Australian homes connected to the fixed-line NBN network are already eligible for an upgrade or will be by December 2025. NBN Co is on track to complete upgrades to the local fibre network, enabling 3.5 million homes and businesses served by Fibre to the Node (FTTN) and 1.5 million premises served by Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) to upgrade to FTTP.

The Last Pieces of the Puzzle

Earlier this year, NBN Co announced a joint investment with the Australian Government to upgrade the remaining copper-based, FTTN-connected homes by 2030. This will benefit around 622,000 homes, with more than half located in regional Australia.

The Evolution of the NBN Network

In addition to its fixed-line network, NBN Co has also made significant strides in upgrading its fixed wireless network, with the option now available to around 90% of its expanded footprint. The company is also exploring new satellite internet options to replace the aging Sky Muster network.

Why Upgrade Now?

With the value of the fastest NBN plans and the growing number of upgrade-eligible homes, now is the perfect time to take the plunge. A high-speed internet plan means faster file downloads and streaming, and full-fibre infrastructure is more reliable and less prone to outages. Simply check your address on the NBN website to see if you’re eligible for the free FTTP upgrade, and choose from one of the best NBN providers to get started.
