Unlock Ultimate Sharing Power: Google Elevates QR Code Sharing in Quick Share

Quick Share Gets a QR Twist, Making File Sharing Even Easier

TL;DR: Google is introducing QR code-based sharing for Quick Share, allowing you to send files to nearby devices by scanning a QR code.

Quick Share is an incredibly convenient way to send files between Android devices, and it’s about to get even handier. Google is rolling out QR code-based sharing for Quick Share, making it easier than ever to share files with nearby devices.

When you open Quick Share, you can choose who you’d like to share with. You can share with only your devices signed into your Google account, share with contacts, or even share with anyone nearby. However, this "everyone" option makes your device discoverable to everyone, which might be a concern for some users. Thankfully, Google is providing an alternative solution for those who want to send a file to a non-contact, without using the "Everyone" setting.

The new "Use QR code" button, spotted by 9to5Google, lives in the "Send to nearby devices" section of the full-screen UI. Tapping on this button generates a QR code that can be scanned by another Android device, establishing a connection and initiating the file transfer.

This QR code can be scanned by multiple devices if you’d like to share something with multiple people. This feature is now available with version 24.49.33 of Google Play services, which rolled out today.
