Unlock the Ultimate Yakuza Experience: Pirate-Infused Beat ‘Em Up Combat and Jaw-Dropping Minigames in Hawaii

Majima’s Return: Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Brings the Heat

For years, fans of the beloved character Majima have been waiting for his return as a main story protagonist. After his stint as the protagonist in Yakuza 0 and his appearances in Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2, Majima enthusiasts have probably spent countless hours screenshotting and recording every moment they can get with him. And finally, the wait is over. Ryu Ga Gotoku (RGG) studio has released a seven-minute announcement trailer for their newest title, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, where Majima shines once again as the sole protagonist.

A New Pirate Style

In this latest installment, Majima transforms into a pirate, a style that’s somehow even sillier than his signature style. By seamlessly switching to this stance, Majima is equipped with two cutlasses, a flintlock pistol, and a wire hook as weapons, and can easily switch between them for fun combos. The Heat moves are sure to be ridiculous, and we can’t wait to explore this new style further.

Minigames and Side Content

RGG games are famous for their abundance of side content and minigames to enjoy outside of combat. In Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, fans will be happy to know that the karaoke bar is back, with brand-new songs and some returning favorites from previous games. We also got to briefly explore Madlantis, a secret city filled with neon lights and illegal gambling, and loved using the grappling hook to collect treasure and discover new heights.

A Nostalgic Feel

Although our preview was short-lived, we got to experience a number of exciting new features and adored playing Majima again. It felt nostalgic running around the streets as the Mad Dog, and we’re sure old-school fans of Majima will feel the same.

What’s Next?

We didn’t get to explore the story much, so we’ll save our analysis for now. However, we’re eager to see more soft moments with the character again and hope there will be some references to the side stories in Yakuza 0 and possibly some reunions with characters from previous Yakuza games. Maybe there will be some heartfelt moments with Kiryu too, or perhaps a run-in with a certain character that longtime fans know now resides overseas.

Conclusion

Whether the story will finally conclude the Mad Dog’s saga or not, fans will be impressed with the new features Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii has to offer, which also finally scratches that itch for more Majima. The combat feels effortlessly fun, there seems to be a plethora of side content to explore, and, best of all, we can finally see the old Mad Dog shine once again.
