Unlock the Truth: Why Marvel Snap’s Ban is a Wake-Up Call for Social Media

Divest-or-Ban Law Takes Down More ByteDance Apps, Including Popular Card Game Marvel Snap

In a shocking move, the divest-or-ban law aimed at TikTok has now taken down several other ByteDance-linked apps, including the popular card game Marvel Snap. The app, developed by Second Dinner and published by Nuverse, a company owned by ByteDance, suddenly cut off access to users without warning.

A Surprising Turn of Events

For many players, the sudden shutdown was a surprise, as they weren’t aware of the connection between Marvel Snap and ByteDance. As a result, players who had been spending money on in-game items expecting to continue playing may have been left in the dark.

In-Game Message Apologizes and Promises a Solution

An in-game message now tells players, "Sorry, Marvel Snap isn’t available right now. A law banning Marvel Snap has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use Marvel Snap for now. Rest assured, we’re working to restore our service in the U.S. Please stay tuned!"

Other ByteDance Apps Also Disappeared

In addition to Marvel Snap, other ByteDance apps have also vanished from app stores, including Lemon8 and CapCut. The impact on other ByteDance-linked apps is still uncertain, with some games remaining available while others have been removed. The Lark app, which offers a Slack-like collaboration platform, was initially available but has now been taken down, while games like Earth: Revival – Deep Underground and Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary remain accessible in the App Store.

Second Dinner Works on Re-launch

In a statement, Second Dinner confirmed that the takedown was unexpected and promised to restore service as soon as possible. The game’s developer assured fans, "Marvel Snap isn’t going anywhere. We’re actively working on getting the game up as soon as possible and will update you once we have more to share."
