Unlock the Strategy: Why CoD: Warzone’s Unwinnable Purgatory LTM is a Gaming Game-Changer
Purgatory: The Spooky Sandbox Mode That’s a Blast
Call of Duty’s Warzone mode has gotten a refreshing makeover with the introduction of Purgatory, a limited-time event that brings a unique twist to the battle royale formula. Played on the Hellspawn variant of Rebirth Island, Purgatory is a sandbox-style mode that combines elements of survival, exploration, and combat to create a thrilling experience that’s perfect for the spooky season.
A New Kind of Battle Royale
In Purgatory, you’ll join 10 squads of four players, each battling for supremacy on a map filled with eerie landscapes, creepy creatures, and mysterious ball-shaped portals that allow you to teleport around the map. But don’t expect a typical Warzone match – Purgatory is all about exploration and experimentation. You’ll need to navigate the map, find new ways to survive, and adapt to the ever-changing environment.
Terriballs and Shipment Maps
One of the most exciting features of Purgatory is the introduction of Terriballs, giant killer balls that bounce around the map and can be used to take down opponents. And, yes, you can actually pilot the Shipment map around the sky like a helicopter! It’s a silly and hilarious feature that adds a new level of fun to the mode.
Torment Level and XP Rewards
As you play Purgatory, you’ll earn experience points and climb the Torment level, which is shown below the minimap as a meter with five skulls. The higher your Torment level, the more XP you’ll earn, but be warned – it also increases the match difficulty. You can also lose your entire Torment level by dying or entering a safe zone, which can be an intentional or unintentional way to shake things up.
The Verdict
While Purgatory is a lot of fun, there are a few drawbacks to consider. The two-hour match timer can be a bit lengthy, and it would be nice to have an option to exfil early or have an optional game-ending objective. Additionally, the contracts on the map are just the standard Warzone variety, which feels like a missed opportunity to incorporate Halloween-themed challenges or enemy types.
A Recurring Mode?
Despite these minor complaints, I’ve spent a lot of time racking up XP in Purgatory, and it makes me think a sandbox mode like this would be great to stick around, or at the very least, exist as a recurring mode. Warzone’s larger Urzikstan map would also be a great fit for a larger sandbox-style experience and seasonal events.
Don’t Miss Out
The Haunting event runs until October 16, so be sure to give Purgatory a try and earn some spooky rewards. And who knows? Maybe we’ll see this mode return in the future with new features and challenges.
