Unlock the Power of Dynamic Color on Your Android with the Google Home App Update
Google Home App Finally Gets Dynamic Color Scheme with Android 13 and Later
For a while now, Google’s Material You redesign has been making waves in the tech world. But, despite this overhaul, the Google Home app has been missing one key feature: Dynamic Color. Well, that’s finally changing.
What’s the Deal with Dynamic Color?
As part of the Public Preview program, Google Home on Android is testing a "Dynamic color scheme." Essentially, this feature will allow your app to reflect the color scheme you choose for your Android phone or tablet, providing a more personalized experience. This is available on Android 13 and later.
But When Will We See It in Action?
We’ve checked the latest versions of the Google Home app (3.27 and 3.28), and it’s not yet fully rolled out. There’s a good chance that this is a server-side component, so we might need to wait for a bit longer.
How Will This Look Different?
Currently, the Google Home app has a non-tinted white or dark gray background with a blue accent color throughout, including the bottom bar and floating action buttons (FABs). This is the standard look for apps that don’t leverage Dynamic Color.
What’s Different about the Google Search App?
The Google (Search) app is another big exception, with most first-party apps properly themed for a consistent experience. It looks like Google Home is the odd one out, for now!
