The Asus TUF Gaming A16 Advantage Edition (FA617XS) is a rather intriguing gaming laptop, not just because of its impressive specifications, but also due to its AMD-powered construction. With all-AMD hardware, including the latest entry-level mobile GPU from AMD, the Radeon RX 7600S, and an excellent Phoenix APU with eight Zen 4 CPU cores, it’s no wonder that performance enthusiasts are excited about this new laptop.
Highlights:
- AMD-powered for better power efficiency
- Great 16-inch IPS panel with 240Hz refresh rate
- Excellent battery life, perfect for those on-the-go gaming sessions
Screen-wise, it’s a really punchy, crisp, and responsive display…
This 16-inch IPS panel boasts an impressive 240Hz refresh rate, 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, and excellent colors. While some may bemoan the lack of an Nvidia GPU, which is the preferred choice among many gamers, the RX 7600S provides more than sufficient power for 1080p gaming. You’ll get an average frame rate of 60fps for most demanding titles.
Decent all-round performance… Great screen… An RTX 4060 would still be preferable
For non-demanding titles, performance is smooth and consistent, thanks to the 8-core Ryzen 9 7940HS CPU, which delivers more than adequate clockspeed with up to 5.2GHz boost speed. 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a fast 1TB SSD further ensure responsiveness and rapid loading times.
Should I Buy the Asus TUF Gaming A16 Advantage Edition?
Buy it if: You’re on a budget, or want an excellent screen, good performance for casual gaming, and outstanding battery life.
Don’t buy it if: You’re a serious gamer and want the absolute best frame rates and Nvidia features for ray tracing, resolution scaling, and more.
