Unlock the Fury: God of War Ragnarök GPU Benchmarking for Dominant Performance
God of War Ragnarök: A Stunning PC Port with Surprisingly Modest Hardware Requirements
The wait is finally over, as God of War Ragnarök has made its way to PC after being a PlayStation exclusive for two years. Despite being an older game, it still looks incredible on PC, plays remarkably well, and incorporates various new technologies such as DLSS 3, FSR 3.1, and XeSS 1.3 upscaling, as well as frame generation. The game’s engine, developed by Santa Monica Studio, has been updated to support these features, along with the required DX12 support.
Benchmarking and System Requirements
For our testing, we’re using one of the most demanding sections of the game, which we found after nearly four hours of gameplay. The game’s CPU requirements are surprisingly modest, thanks to its design with older console hardware in mind. You’ll likely see minimal CPU usage on PC, assuming you have a Zen 3 CPU or newer. However, you’ll be 100% GPU-limited in this title, with larger open-world sections being sparsely populated due to CPU constraints on older consoles.
Testing Setup
Our testing setup includes:
- AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU
- be quiet! Pure Loop 2 FX 360mm cooling
- Gigabyte X670E Aorus Master motherboard with BIOS F33b
- G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32GB DDR5-6000 memory
- MSI Prospect 700R ATX case
- Kolink Regulator Gold ATX 3.0 1200W power supply
- TeamGroup T-Force Cardea A440 M.2 PCIe 4 NVMe SSD 4TB storage
- Windows 11 operating system
GPU Performance
For testing the GeForce GPUs, we’re using the RTX 3060 Ti and RX 6800. With the medium preset, you can easily hit 60 FPS on these GPUs. You can also enable quality upscaling for a 30% performance boost, which should get you to around 80 FPS. However, be aware that 6GB is the minimum VRAM spec for this game, and recent patch allows you to attempt playing on 4GB cards, though the developer warns of poor performance and potential crashes.
Conclusion
All in all, it’s great to see another exciting, high-quality game land on PC this year, especially one that you can enjoy on previous-generation hardware. With surprisingly modest hardware requirements, you can enjoy God of War Ragnarök on a wide range of systems. While a 175 GB game install might seem excessive, it’s a trade-off worth making for the seamless gaming experience.
