A Blast from the Past: Revisiting Sleeping Dogs

A Decade of Gaming Memories

As we move forward into the present, it’s easy to get caught up in the latest gaming trends and new releases. But sometimes, I find myself stuck in the past, revisiting old favorites that never fails to bring a smile to my face. Last night, I spent some time re-downloading the entire seasons of Telltale’s The Walking Dead, still trying to wrap my head around the emotional rollercoaster that is Clementine’s story. I’m also making sure to prioritize some old friends, including Night in the Woods, Destiny 2, and of course, a little Sleeping Dogs.

The Birth of Sleeping Dogs

I remember spinning wheels with the <em,True Crime series back on the PS2, and Sleeping Dogs was initially billed as <em,True Crime: Hong Kong before being revived under Square Enix. And wow, what a game it turned out to be. As Wei Shen, an undercover cop trying to infiltrate the triad gangs of Hong Kong, I loved the sense of exploration and combat that Sleeping Dogs offered. Its open-world design and intuitive combat system made it easy to get lost in the gritty streets of Hong Kong.

A Roster of Talent

But what truly sets Sleeping Dogs apart is its impressive voice cast. Tzi Ma, known for his work in Arrival, lent his voice to the role of the Chinese commander. Tom Wilkinson, who had memorable roles in The Girl with the Pearl Earring and Batman Begins, also made an appearance. And let’s not forget Lucy Liu and Emma Stone, who brought their talent to the game as a singer and the main character’s love interest, respectively.

Rediscovering the Magic

So, if you’re looking for a gaming experience that’s been off your radar for a while, Sleeping Dogs is definitely worth re-exploring. The game’s unique blend of action and exploration, along with its talented voice cast, make it a great reason to dust off your PS3 or PS4 (or even your Xbox if you’re so inclined!) and revisit the world of Wei Shen.
