The Omega Speedmaster Pilot: A Timepiece Fit for the Skies
The rest of the dial is optimized for high visibility in all conditions. The matte-black dial’s textured finish combines with the anti-reflective coating on the crystal to create a non-reflective display that’s easy to read in direct sunlight. The indices and parts of the hands are made of solid blocks of Super-LumiNova, ensuring extra strong luminescence in the dark.
Design and Features
The exterior bezel features a black aluminum tachymeter with a mix of white and orange, while the stainless steel case boasts 1950s-inspired straight lugs and a fully brushed finish, designed to minimize sunlight reflection. The flat-link steel bracelet is also fully brushed, and the watch comes with an additional gray NATO strap made with Kevlar threads for a final military-inspired touch.
Pricing and Availability
While you don’t need to be a military pilot to own the Speedmaster Pilot, you’ll still need to have a sizeable budget. The watch is priced at $9,500, which is a bit higher than a standard Moonwatch but in line with what Omega charges for existing two-counter Speedmaster models.
What We Think
We consider this a strong release from Omega. It combines nostalgic elements from beloved vintage models with modern flair, boasting a fun and interesting color scheme and a built-in mythos that collectors can’t resist.
