Unlock iOS 18 Beta with Apple’s Latest Update: Return to Apple’s Exclusive Testing Program
Apple Releases iOS 18.3 Developer Beta 1: Good for Hardcore Fans, but Not for Everyone
As soon as Apple released the first developer beta for iOS 18, I couldn’t resist joining the beta program. With the $99 price tag no longer applicable, users can now install the developer beta for free, waiting for the public beta release. While I don’t usually recommend installing beta software on my daily driver, I took the plunge and installed it on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. The only downside was the significant drop in battery life.
Early Access to Apple Intelligence Features
Staying with the developer program allowed me to get an early look at the Apple Intelligence features introduced in beta versions of iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2. However, with the release of the stable version of iOS 18.2, I decided to exit the beta program and return to stable updates. The latest news is that Apple just released iOS 18.3 developer beta 1, but I’ve decided to stick with the stable update to maintain longer battery life.
What’s New in iOS 18.3 Developer Beta 1?
The build number for this release is 22D5034e, and it still has some Apple Intelligence features to roll out, including Siri’s ability to understand your personal context. We might not see this feature arrive until iOS 18.4 is released. This would be the one Apple Intelligence feature that might entice me to return to the iOS 18 beta program.
When Can We Expect the Stable Release of iOS 18.3?
We expect the stable version of iOS 18.3 to be released in late January, which would result in the release of the iOS 18.4 beta and the stable version of that build coming to compatible iPhone models in March or April.
How to Install iOS 18.3 Developer Beta 1
To install iOS 18.3 developer beta 1 on your iPhone, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
- Tap on Beta Updates at the top of the screen.
- Tap on iOS 18 Developer Beta and Back in the upper left corner.
- Select the listing for iOS 18.3 beta and follow the installation instructions.
Note: Once you install the beta, you cannot go back to stable updates without wiping your device. So, if you do join the iOS 18.3 beta program, you’ll be stuck there until the end of next month.
