Unlock Exclusive Android Features with Gemini’s ‘Ask About This PDF’ Rollout
Android 16 Beta Update: "Ask About This PDF" Integration with Gemini Now Rolling Out
The wait is over – the "Ask About This PDF" integration with Android’s Gemini overlay is finally rolling out, and it’s a game-changer for file management on your Android device. After being previewed at I/O 2024, this feature is now available in the Files by Google app, allowing you to seamlessly integrate PDFs with the powerful Gemini search capabilities.
What’s New in the "Ask About This PDF" Integration?
When viewing a PDF in Files by Google’s new viewer, you’ll notice a new "Ask About This PDF" chip in the Gemini overlay. This feature is not available in Google Drive’s viewer, which still shows the traditional "Ask About This Screen" prompt.
How to Use the "Ask About This PDF" Integration?
To access this feature, simply tap on the "Ask About This PDF" chip while viewing a PDF in Files by Google. This will start uploading the document, and you can enter text into the "Ask Gemini" field. The send button will be grayed out until the process is complete.
How the Integration Works
Once the upload is complete, the answer will be displayed as an overlay with the PDF in the background. You can continue to enter more questions and receive answers, just like the experience in the Gemini app.
Important Notes
The "Ask About This PDF" feature is only available to Gemini Advanced customers and uses the model’s long context window. It’s also tied to the Google app’s beta version 16.0.5, which is currently being rolled out to users.
