Unlock Enhanced Gaming Performance on Your Windows 11 Gaming Handheld with Xbox App Updates
Microsoft’s Xbox App for Windows Gets a Fresh Facelift
Microsoft has been working tirelessly to improve its Xbox app for Windows, and the latest update brings a redesigned Home page that’s packed with exciting new features. One of the most notable additions is a “Jump back in” ability that’s perfect for those who use a gaming handheld with Windows 11.
As Microsoft explains, this feature enables players in Compact Mode to click on any game card and jump right back into gameplay from the game’s hub. This is essentially a bank of shortcuts to quickly get back to the games you’ve recently been playing without having to wade through more bits of clunky interface.
But that’s not all – the new Home page is designed to make it easier for people to find new games they might like. Microsoft has streamlined the experience to offer a “unified Home experience that combines the best and latest content from both the Game Pass and Microsoft Store tabs.” This means you can browse through a curated selection of games, including discounts and deals, without having to jump between tabs.
A Boost for Handheld Gaming
The redesigned Home experience is particularly beneficial for those who use a gaming handheld with Windows 11. The “Jump back in” feature is a great addition, allowing you to quickly launch your favorite games without having to navigate through the app’s interface.
Microsoft has also added more games to the Xbox app, bringing the total to 400. Of these, 100 are Xbox Play Anywhere games, which means you can play the Xbox PC version when you buy the Xbox console version (and vice versa). This is great news for gamers who want to play their favorite games across multiple platforms.
Limitations of the “Jump Back In” Feature
While the “Jump back in” feature is a great addition, there are some limitations to consider. For example, you can only launch games purchased through the Xbox Store. This means you won’t be able to launch games from other libraries, such as Steam and Epic Games Store, which is a shame.
A Positive Sign for the Handheld Future
These changes for the Xbox app have been in testing since October, so it’s great to see them go live. The addition of the handheld feature is a laudable extra touch of convenience for those gaming on a Windows 11 portable.
Microsoft’s efforts to improve the Xbox app for Windows are a positive sign that the company is committed to supporting handheld gaming. If you recall, it was a year ago that Microsoft took one of the largest strides forward in this respect, bringing in Compact Mode for the Xbox app on PC.

Microsoft isn’t forgetting about these portable devices, certainly, which is a good sign that the rumored handheld mode that might eventually arrive could still be in the works. With the Xbox app getting a fresh facelift, it’s an exciting time to be a gamer on the go.
