Unleashing The Ultimate Disney Dream: An Epic Collaboration Revealed!

Disney and Epic Games Team Up to Create a Magical Metaverse

In a recent announcement, Disney and Epic Games revealed their collaboration on a "persistent universe" that will bring together beloved characters from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and more. This ambitious project promises to revolutionize the gaming experience by integrating characters from various franchises into a seamless, interconnected ecosystem.

A Deeper Dive into the Disney-Epic Partnership

While the initial announcement was vague, Epic Games EVP Saxs Persson shared more insights during an interview at Unreal Fest in Seattle. According to Persson, the key to this partnership is connecting into Epic’s ecosystem, allowing players to move between different experiences without any disruptions. "Disney wants a persistent place where all things Disney can be there, but they want to be part of an ecosystem we’ve built," Persson explained. "We see the power of ecosystems interoperating as being really the magic here. From a player perspective, you want to be able to flow between a Fortnite experience, a Disney experience, or any experience really."

Seamless Experience, Brand Guidelines, and More

Persson emphasized that players will be able to enter the Disney universe through either the Disney "front door" or the Fortnite "front door," but they’ll connect to the same backend services. This means that players can enjoy a seamless experience across different franchises, without any disruptions. However, not every outfit will be able to do everything. "A [Lego] minifig doesn’t hold a gun," Persson noted. "Brands should be able to enforce the brand guidelines to the degree that they’re comfortable with that brand being associated with particular ratings."

Disney’s Vision for the Metaverse

Disney understands that different franchises are suitable for different experiences. "Some IPs are not teen IPs or mature IPs. They are E for everyone IPs," Persson said. This is why you can already play as many Disney-owned characters wielding a gun in Fortnite. The list of playable characters includes Marvel and Star Wars characters, as well as Disney villains like Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, and Captain Hook, who will soon be available as playable characters.

The Future of the Disney-Epic Partnership

While Epic and Disney haven’t announced a specific release date for their persistent universe, Persson is clearly excited about the project. "It’s one of those partnerships that you can only wish for," he said. "This is all of Disney, and this is all-in from both companies to make what every Disney fan has ever wanted." With their combined expertise and resources, Disney and Epic Games are poised to create a truly magical metaverse that will delight fans of all ages.
