Unleashing the Power of Sustainability: 2025 Porsche Macan EV First Drive Review

Porsche’s Biggest Bet: Is the All-Electric Macan the Future of Luxury SUVs?

Porsche is making a bold statement with its second-generation Macan, which is exclusively electric. Gone is the traditional V6 engine, replaced by a battery-powered powertrain that delivers instant torque and eye-watering acceleration. But was it the right move? We put the new Macan to the test to find out.

Subtly Electric

The new Macan’s design is both familiar and new. Its styling cues mirror those of the Taycan sedan, with rectangular LED lights and a light bar at the rear that creates a sense of width. While it’s not immediately obvious the Macan is electric, subtle hints are there – a shorter front overhang and a longer wheelbase – thanks to the need to package a massive battery pack.

Quick and Quiet

The Macan’s performance is nothing short of astonishing. With up to 576 horsepower, it’s faster than its predecessor, with a 0-60mph time of just 3.9 seconds in the Turbo trim. The electric motor’s direct drive replaces gears and turbo lag, delivering linear acceleration and instant torque. It’s almost silent, too – unless you opt for the artificial engine noise, which we left off.

A Car That’s Both Fun and Luxurious

The Macan’s cabin is, as expected, a masterclass in luxury. Every surface is thoughtfully designed, with top-notch materials and a plethora of tech features. The infotainment system is user-friendly, with a 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster and two 10.9-inch screens for the infotainment system and optional front passenger display.

It’s Still a Porsche

Our early impressions of the Macan suggest a strong case for itself, both as an electric car and as a Porsche. It’s quick, fun to drive, and luxurious inside with the right amount of tech. But is it the right choice for you? With a starting price of $75,300, it’s certainly an investment. The current Macan, meanwhile, will remain in production until 2026, offering a more traditional choice for those who prefer the familiar.

Pricing:

  • 2025 Porsche Macan: $75,300
  • Macan 4: $78,800
  • Macan 4S: $84,900
  • Macan Turbo: $105,300
