Unleashing a Rainbow: Google’s Compact Overlay Revamp for Gemini
Google Gemini Gets a Fresh New Look
Gemini, the contextual search overlay in Google’s keyboard, has recently received a design refresh to reduce its footprint and present suggestions in pill-shaped bubbles. The updated overlay is now rolling out to users, but it appears Google has another change in store for the feature.
A Prominent Animation on the Horizon
When the compact Gemini overlay was first rolled out, it featured a subtle glow animation in the signature pink and purple hues of the feature. While the new design is sleeker and more refined, Google may be about to make this animation much more prominent. An APK teardown has revealed a new animation for the compact overlay in the latest Google app beta release (version 15.49.40.sa.arm64), which adds an animated border around the text box and microphone button with the same color palette as the glow animation.
Check out the Animated Border
As seen in the image below, the new animation resembles the Siri animation introduced in iOS 18.1 earlier this year. While Gemini’s glow effect is limited to the overlay instead of bordering the entire display, the new design is a fresh and engaging twist on the original concept.
