Unleash Thumping Bass, Enduring Rhythm with LG XBoom Go XG8T Wireless Speaker Review

LG XBoom Go XG8T Review: Does it Stand Out from the Competition?

When it comes to portable speakers, the LG XBoom Go XG8T has a tough task on its hands. Standing out in a crowded field, this large and impressive speaker finds itself pitted against some big-name rivals like JBL, Bose, and Ultimate Ears. So, does it rise to the challenge?

Aesthetics: LG XBoom Go XG8T Shines with Impressive Design

One area where the LG XBoom Go XG8T shines is its phenomenal durability. Military-grade protection is passed in seven different tests, earning it a strong IP67 waterproof rating. It’s no wonder that, along with a high-quality build and a customizable LED light feature, this speaker’s design sets it apart. And let’s not forget about its wraparound speaker grille – a neat touch that adds an extra layer of flair.

Audio Performance: Disappointingly, it Struggles

Outside of its impressive looks and durability, however, the XBoom Go XG8T falters in other key areas. Let’s start with battery life: despite LG claiming 15 hours of playtime, we experienced significantly less than that – around 7 hours at best – especially when playing with LED lights on and the Sound Boost feature active. Considering its competitors are regularly available at prices significantly lower than the LG’s list price, it’s a hard sell.

In terms of audio performance, the speaker does offer respectable lows, although some might find them slightly boom-box-esque at times. But there’s more: mid-ranges are slightly dull, with the top treble lacking depth. Sound processing could also use a boost; for a premium product, there’s little innovative magic happening here. To summarize: solid sound, but little more.

The Bottom Line: What Does the LG XBoom Go XG8T Need?

If we’re being blunt, the XBoom Go XG8T doesn’t necessarily scream "must-have." For its listed price, users may find alternatives with better overall performance, not to mention impressive durability and impressive features. LG might have played it too safe with this offering.

However, with sales being common and potential buyers finding more aggressive deals on this speaker, there might just be room to squeeze a look around the $150 mark, say. Who knows? Give the LG XBoom Go XG8T another shot on sale, but if not – consider one of those excellent competitors!
