Unleash the Power of Weather on the Go: Top Android Auto Apps Still Coming
The Wait for The Weather Channel to Come to Android Auto Continues
Back in 2021, Google announced that weather apps would be coming to Android Auto and Android Automotive. While we’ve seen some notable weather apps like "Weather & Radar" and "MyRadar" eventually make their way onto the platform, there’s one major exception: The Weather Channel. Despite being a major player in the world of weather reporting, The Weather Channel is still missing from the list.
A Brief History of Weather Apps on Android Auto
In February 2023, we first saw the release of "Weather & Radar," a weather app that would go on to receive a major update on its one-year anniversary. Later, in February 2024, "MyRadar" became the second major Android Auto weather app to launch. These apps were the result of an "early access" program, which Google announced in May 2023. This program aimed to bring more types of apps to Android Auto and Android Automotive, including IoT and weather apps.
The Status of The Weather Channel App
It’s been nearly two years since that original announcement, and while we’ve seen some movement in the world of weather apps on Android Auto, The Weather Channel is still missing. In September 2023, Google showed off a native Weather Channel app for Android Automotive, which has received poor reviews. Since then, there’s been little change. It’s unclear whether or not the app will be released at all, or if it was only intended for Android Automotive.
The Future of Weather Apps on Android Auto
It’s a shame that Google hasn’t widely opened up support for more weather apps on Android Auto, as it’s holding things back. The lack of available apps has been a popular topic of discussion among Android Auto users, and it’s unclear when or if more options will be added. One thing is for sure, though: the wait for The Weather Channel continues.
