Unleash the Power: Asus ROG Astral Cards Outshine RTX 5090 Founders Edition with Unmatched Performance
RTX 50-Series GPUs Make a Big Entrance
Yesterday seems like a distant memory, and the jet lag from my trip has only just begun to wear off. But before I dive back into my regularly scheduled programming, I wanted to share some juicy details about the Nvidia keynote I attended. Apparently, the wait is finally over, and we’ve got our first glimpse at the RTX 50-series GPUs.
I recently wrote an article about the svelte and menacing RTX 5090 Founders Edition, but now I’ve seen it in person – and it’s a whole different story. During my visit to the Asus suite at CES 2025, I stumbled upon the Asus ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090, and let me tell you, it’s massive. Chonky. Proper thicc. Check out the image below for a better look.

This behemoth of a GPU boasts a quad fan cooler, with three fans on one side and one on the back. Asus says it was inspired by the beauty of the cosmos and is a testament to their dedication to exploring and defining new frontiers. If that’s what they mean by "exploring new frontiers," I think they might need to redefine the term.
As impressive as it looks, I have to ask – does this card really need all that cooling if it’s pushed past its default clocks? We’ll have to wait and see, I suppose, but I suppose there’s no harm in overdoing it.
Asus also had on display their ROG Astral LC GeForce RTX 5090 32GB GDDR7 OC Edition, which comes equipped with a 360 mm AIO cooler, attached by seriously hefty hoses to a full-coverage copper cold plate. That’s a whole lot of cooling power, folks.
Catching up on CES 2025
For those who are new to this, CES 2025 is the place to be for the latest announcements from some of the biggest names in tech. This year, we’re seeing releases from Nvidia, AMD, Intel, Asus, Razer, MSI, and more. Want to stay in the loop? Follow along for the latest news and updates!
The RTX 50-series: Are They Worth It?
Will these massive GPUs be worth the hefty price tag? Only time will tell. But one thing is for certain – they’re certainly making an impression. We’ll have to wait and see how they perform in real-world scenarios, but for now, I’m left wondering – are they worth it?
