Unleash the Power: 2025 Ram HD Boosts Style and Performance with Luxury Upgrades and High-Tech Diesel Engine
Ram’s 2025 HD and Chassis Cab Lineups: More Than Just a Facelift
The 2025 Ram HD and Chassis Cab lineups are more than just a fresh coat of paint and a new grille. While they may borrow some design cues from the standard Ram 1500, these heavy-duty trucks pack some significant mechanical upgrades under the hood.
New Engine Options
For 2025, Ram HD pickup buyers are limited to just two engine options: the standard 6.4-liter Hemi V8 and the 6.7-liter Cummins diesel I6. The former puts out 405 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque, while the latter packs 430 horsepower and a whopping 1,075 lb-ft of torque. That’s right, the diesel engine now comes with glow plugs – a first for these diesel-powered Ram HD trucks.
New Transmission
The 6.7-liter Cummins diesel now mates up to a new, higher-output version of the ZF TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic used in the gas model. Ram’s engineers claim this new transmission offers more torque to the wheels at takeoff, while also reducing RPMs at cruise by 25%.
Column Shifter
A big win for those who don’t like the rotary dial shifter: every new Ram HD now comes equipped with a column shifter.
Chassis Cab Upgrades
The Chassis Cab, available with both the Hemi V8 and Cummins I6, has lower outputs. The Hemi makes 375 horsepower and 429 lb-ft, while the diesel puts out 360 horsepower and 800 lb-ft. But don’t worry, these engines are still capable of towing serious weight – the Chassis Cab’s maximum trailer weight rating has been adjusted down slightly for 2025, but it’s still plenty capable.
New Power-Take-Off Solution
The Chassis Cab gets another major win with the new power-take-off (PTO) solution. This new setup is compatible with left- and right-hand mounting configurations and can even be used simultaneously. It also features a new remote-throttle setup for finer control at low engine speeds.
Interiors and Capability
The interiors of both the HD and Chassis Cab benefit from many of the same upgrades that were introduced with the 2025 Ram 1500. Capability-wise, nothing much has really changed, but the upgrades across the line appear to have come at the expense of some additional chassis weight. The maximum tow ratings have been adjusted down slightly for 2025.
Availability
The 2025 Ram HD will be on sale by the end of the quarter, according to Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis. The 2025 Ram 2500 HD starts at $47,560 including destination, while the 2025 Ram 3500 kicks off from $48,565.
