Teardown 3rd Person Update: A Major Overhaul for the Destruction Sandbox
In a recent update, developer Tuxedo Labs announced that players can now experience Teardown in 3rd person, a significant change for the popular destruction sandbox game. This update marks a major departure from the game’s original first-person perspective, where players controlled a camera and arms to move through the game world.
A New Perspective, New Capabilities
With the 3rd person perspective, players can now choose from a selection of playable characters, each with their own unique abilities and animations. Modders will also have access to animation support and be able to create and share their own custom characters. This new perspective has enabled the development of more complex animations and character interactions, further enriching the game’s already dynamic world.
A New Era for Teardown
As Natalie Clayton noted in our PC Gamer review, Teardown is more than just a tech demo – it’s a window into a world where game worlds are dynamic, physical, and breakable. The game’s destruction mechanics have been inspired by classics like Half-Life 2 and Red Faction: Guerrilla, and this new perspective takes that to the next level.
Awards and Accolades
Teardown has already received several awards, including our Best Sandbox 2022 award, where it was praised for its "absurdly freeform gameplay" and ability to "stolen our hearts." In our review, Morgan Park described the game as a journey that begins with the simple pleasure of smashing a plastered wall with a sledgehammer and escalates into lifting entire apartment complexes with a gravity gun.
Get Ready to Play Teardown
Teardown is currently available on Steam for $30, but with a limited-time offer, you can get the game for 50% off – just $15 – until October 17.
