Unleash the Freedom: Easily Remove and Upgrade Your Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Controllers

The Mysterious Joy-Con Release Mechanism on the Nintendo Switch 2: Uncovered!
New tidbits of info have surfaced from official Nintendo sources regarding the Switch 2 and its innovative Joy-Con design. While we’ve received a glimpse into the console’s hardware, many questions still linger, including how those larger Joy-Con controllers attach to and detach from the Switch 2.
The Answer Lies in Plain Sight
The key to answering this question lies in a small, often-overlooked detail on Nintendo’s official website. The solution was right under our noses, but it took a keen eye to spot it.
A Clue Hidden in the Official Nintendo Website
Polygon has discovered that the looping video on Nintendo’s website, which debuted at the console’s unveiling, holds the answer. Fast-forward to the 20-second mark, and a rear close-up shot of the right-hand Joy-Con reveals a new, laterally-aligned button beneath the trigger buttons.
The Magic Happens Here
As suspected, pressing this button releases the Joy-Con, with the top half coming out first. What’s easy to overlook is that the central section of the concentric circular element on the inner edge of the Joy-Con appears to retract as the Joy-Con pops out and the trigger mechanism returns to its default position.
Magnetic Forces at Play?
This could imply that the tiny cylinder is pushed out by the trigger button, physically releasing the Joy-Con. This tiny detail strengthens the case for the Switch 2’s magnetic attachment system, making it even more likely that powerful magnets will secure the second-gen Joy-Cons.
Not Much to Go on… Yet
It’s clear that Nintendo hasn’t given us much to work with, leaving us to piece together the puzzle. The big Switch 2 reveal is still a month away, so we’ll have to wait until April 2 to get the full scoop on games, capabilities, pricing, and release dates.
