Unleash the Beast: Fox Body Ford Mustang Wagon Revamped with Coyote V8 Power
The Fox Body Mustang Wagon You Never Knew You Needed
As someone who writes about cars for a living, I’m no stranger to Fox body Ford Mustang hate. But, I’m here to tell you that I’ve found the exception to the rule. Enter comedian Dax Shepard’s latest project: a 1980 Mercury Zephyr wagon with a Fox body Mustang front end. Yes, you read that right – a wagon.
Shepard’s car is no slouch, with a Gen 3 5.0-liter Coyote V8 under the hood, pumping out 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. The transmission is a six-speed manual, complete with a cue ball shifter, and the suspension has been upgraded with adjustable coilovers and a Mustang Cobra IRS. But what really sets this car apart is its styling.
The paint is a sleek white, with gold Rotiform wheels and a red Mustang interior. The flared arches match the wide rollers perfectly, and the finishing work is top-notch. This isn’t a car that was cobbled together for social media clout – it’s a serious build from start to finish.
So, what do you think? Can you imagine cruising around in this bad boy? Let us know in the comments!
The Build
Shepard’s Zephyr was built by Tyler Loguzzo, who shared the build details on his Instagram. The car features a tubular K-member to cut weight and allow room for the Coyote’s long-tube headers. The A-arms are also tubular, and the suspension package includes adjustable coilovers and a Mustang Cobra IRS. Braking isn’t neglected, either – the car runs 14-inch Wilwood rotors with six-piston calipers up front.
Conclusion
All in all, this is a super polished build. So many others we see on celebrity Instagram pages are just slap-dash jobs built for clout. This isn’t that, and huge kudos to Shepard and Loguzzo for making it happen.
