Unleash Sonic Bliss: Impressive Hybrid IEMs for Audiophiles on a Budget

Activo Q1: A Budget-Friendly Hybrid IEM That Delivers

If you’re looking for a pair of earbuds that won’t break the bank but still offer impressive sound quality, look no further than the Activo Q1. This hybrid in-ear monitor (IEM) is a collaboration between Activo, a lifestyle sub-brand of audiophile digital audio player specialist Astell & Kern, and DITA Audio, a Singaporean IEM firm known for its high-end earbuds.

Design and Features

The Q1s have a sturdy build and a chic design that’s perfect for everyday use. They come with a protective case, five pairs of eartips, and two connectors – 3.5mm and 4.4mm balanced. This versatility makes them compatible with a wide range of devices, from budget-friendly smartphones to high-end portable music players.

Sound Quality

The Q1s use a 9.8mm PM1+ dynamic driver, which is known for its neutral, transparent sound. They deliver a clear and entertaining sound, with a strong emphasis on detail and a lack of harshness. Bass response is well-controlled, and the earbuds handle a variety of genres with ease. If you like heavy bass, you may need to adjust your device’s EQ to get the sound you prefer.

Value

The Q1s are an incredible value for the price. They’re one of the best-sounding earbuds in their class, and their affordability makes them an attractive option for anyone looking to upgrade their listening experience without breaking the bank.

Don’t buy the Activo Q1 if:

How I Tested

I tested the Q1s with their intended partner, the Activo P1 hi-res audio player, and I also used them with my Marantz CD player, with vinyl through my Onkyo amp, and with my own music projects on a Mac with a Komplete Audio interface. I compared them to my go-to mixing headphones, a set of Beyer-Dynamic DT770 Pros, as well as more casual earbuds from Apple and Bose. The Q1s held their own, delivering a clear and entertaining sound that impressed me at every turn.
