Unexpected Thrills and Triumphs at AGDQ: The Most Unpredictable Gaming Marathons

Awesome Games Done Quick: A Charity Marathon Like No Other

As the annual charity speedrunning marathon, Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ), continues to raise funds for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, it’s a great time to explore the many amazing runs that make up this incredible event. With over $500,000 already raised and three more days to go, there’s still plenty to look forward to.

Discovering Hidden Gems

One of the best things about AGDQ is the opportunity to discover new games and runs that you might not have otherwise found. Take, for example, the speedrun of Batman Forever: The Arcade Game. I’d never played this game before, but after watching the speedrun, I’m now eager to give it a try. The game’s unique blend of Batman-flavored beat-’em-up action and Robin’s overpowered abilities made for an entertaining and hilarious watch.

The Power of Surprise

While the schedule is set up to feature the most popular games and gimmicky runs during prime time hours, I’ve found that some of my favorite runs are actually those that take place outside of these times. For instance, I stumbled upon Mr. Bones, a Sega Saturn game I’d never heard of, during a bout of insomnia. The speedrun was so captivating that I’m now a huge fan of the game.

Finding Your Next Indie Game

Keeping AGDQ on in the background is a great way to discover new indie games. I didn’t know what Pizza Possum was before watching the speedrun, but now it’s on my list of co-op games to try at home. There are still plenty of amazing runs to come, including a New Super Mario Bros. Wii run with piano accompaniment and a Crazy Taxi run with a live band playing covers of the game’s songs. Who knows what other hidden gems I’ll discover?

The Magic of AGDQ

Awesome Games Done Quick is more than just a charity event – it’s a celebration of gaming, community, and the power of speedrunning. Whether you’re a seasoned gamer or just looking for something new to watch, AGDQ has something for everyone. So, grab some popcorn, settle in, and get ready to be amazed by the incredible runs and charity efforts on display.
