Transforming Retro Soundwaves: 1950s Hi-Fi Speaker Revamped for the Modern Era

Klipsch Teams Up with DIY Whiz to Create a Groundbreaking Speaker

Klipsch, a brand synonymous with high-fidelity sound, is known for its classic designs that have remained largely unchanged over the decades. But in a surprise move, they’ve partnered with DIY enthusiast Devon Turnball, aka Ojas, to create a revolutionary new speaker that combines the best of old and new.

Introducing the Klipsch x Ojas kO-R1 Loudspeaker

The result is the Klipsch x Ojas kO-R1, a speaker that takes inspiration from the iconic Klipsch Heresy, but with a modern twist. This unique collaboration eschews the traditional tweeter, opting for a minimalist design featuring a K-28-E 12” Woofer and K-706 HF Driver.

A Perfect Blend of Old and New

The speaker’s enclosure is crafted from 13-ply Grade A Baltic Birch Plywood, assembled using butt joints, and sits atop a KS-12 stand. The adjustable sandcast aluminum horn, developed by Turnball using a 3D printer, is a nod to the classic horn design that’s a hallmark of the Klipsch brand.

Key Features:

• Dimensions: 16.5" x 28.125" x 13.0"
• Enclosure: 13-ply Grade A Baltic Birch Plywood
• Transducers: K-28-E 12” Woofer; K-706 HF Driver
• Weight: 52 lbs

The Result:

The Klipsch x Ojas kO-R1 loudspeaker is a game-changer, offering a unique blend of classic design and modern innovation. With its distinctive horn and sleek enclosure, it’s sure to turn heads, while its powerful sound quality is sure to please even the most discerning audiophiles.
