Tesla Supercharger Network Expansion Reaches 23% Year-Over-Year Growth
For electric vehicle (EV) owners worried about getting stranded before their next charge, the news is a welcome relief: Tesla’s Supercharger network has resumed its expansion over the last three months. After a dip in new stalls earlier this year due to massive layoffs, Tesla has opened 2,800 new Supercharger stalls globally, marking a 23% increase from the year earlier.
Record Energy Delivery and CO2 Offset
According to Tesla’s official charging account, the company delivered 1.4 terawatt hours (TWh) of energy during the third quarter, a 27% year-over-year growth. This remarkable feat translates to 150 million gallons of gasoline saved, offsetting over 3 billion pounds of CO2.
North America Supercharger Stations See Significant Increase
In North America alone, the number of Supercharger stations has increased by 125, reaching 2,677 stations at the end of September, thanks to the recent expansion. This growth is particularly noteworthy, considering the significant slide in the second quarter after the layoffs.
Non-Tesla EV Manufacturers Line Up to Access Supercharger Network
The third-quarter expansion should go some way in appeasing concerns of Tesla and non-Tesla EV owners. Several manufacturers are eager to access the Supercharger network, including General Motors, which added its Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac electric vehicles to the network in September. Other notable manufacturers, such as Ford, Rivian, Honda, and Volvo, already allow access to their vehicles via adapters.
Tesla Supercharger Map Reveals Concentration in Major Cities and East-West Transit Corridors
The Tesla Supercharger map across the U.S. shows that stations are concentrated in major cities and along East-West transit corridors. According to Tesla, a Supercharger can add up to 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes.
