Spider-Man 2 PC Crashes: Steam Users Demand Refunds

Spider-Man 2’s Bumpy PC Debut: A Mixed Bag of Bugs and Crashes

The wait for Spider-Man 2 on PC has finally come to an end, and it seems like the excitement has been tempered by a messy arrival. Despite its impressive arrival on Steam, the game is already sporting a "mixed" rating from players, with many warning of crashes, freezes, and other issues – even for those with high-end graphics cards like the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090.

It’s not that hard to see why. For one, the game’s developer, Nixxes Software, is known for its expertise in porting games from console to PC, but it seems like this time around, they might have dropped the ball. Insomniac Games’ open-world comic book game, Spider-Man 2, appears to be giving even powerful gaming rigs a run for their money unless players are willing to drastically dial down the settings.

"I ran into significant technical problems with Spider-Man 2 on my RTX 4090," says one disappointed Steam player. "Despite having a high-end GPU and running the latest NVIDIA drivers (566.36), the game frequently crashes with graphics controller errors."

Another player echoed similar sentiments: "Hold off on buying until they get a couple of stability patches out because, holy hell, this is rough. To say this is ‘rough’ is an understatement. Lighting doesn’t load in some cutscenes, those same scenes run at seconds-per-frame, audio desync issues, freezing, stuttering, and just about every other performance issue I can think of."

Sony’s rushing to get their exclusive titles to PC, and it’s not the first time we’ve seen this happen. The Last of Us Part I on PC was released in a similar state, with updates subsequently solving most of the issues. But it raises questions about why Sony would release a game that’s not quite ready for prime time.

We’ll have to wait and see how long it takes Spider-Man 2 to get sorted out. It’s still one of 2023’s best games, and it has the potential to look even better on PC than it did on PS5. For now, though, it’s a mixed bag – and not quite worth the trouble for many players.

Here’s hoping Sony and Nixxes can work their magic to sort out these issues and give Spider-Man 2 the PC debut it deserves.
