Sony Axes Controversial PSN Account Requirements for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Other PC Games

Sony Abandons PSN Account Requirements for Select Single-Player Titles on PC
In a surprise move, Sony has announced that it will no longer require PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts for a number of its previously released and upcoming PC titles. This change affects games like God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered.
While PSN accounts will no longer be mandatory for these games, Sony is introducing new in-game content benefits as an incentive to sign up. For example, players who log into a PSN account for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will unlock the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit early. Similarly, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered players will gain access to the Nora Valiant outfit.
Benefits of Signing Up for a PSN Account
Here are the benefits of signing up for a PSN account for each of the affected games:
- God of War Ragnarok: Unlock Kratos’ Armour of the Black Bear set at the first Lost Items chest in the Realm Between Realms, as well as a resource bundle containing 500 Hacksilver and 250 XP.
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: Access to the Nora Valiant outfit.
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Unlock the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit early.
- The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered: Unlock an Ellie skin inspired by Jordan’s jacket in Naughty Dog’s upcoming Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, as well as 50 additional points to activate bonus features and unlock extras.
What This Means for the Future of PSN on PC
While Sony has not explicitly stated whether this change will apply to all future single-player-focused PC releases, it did confirm that more PSN incentives are on the way. "Game creators at PlayStation Studios will continue to work on bringing more benefits to players who sign up for a PSN account," Sony wrote.
