Scout EVs Make Debut: New Electric Vehicles Unveiled October 24
The wait is almost over for Volkswagen’s electric off-roader, Scout. It’s been a while since the brand was revived, and we’ve been itching to see what Scout has been working on. Well, the time is almost here – Scout is set to unveil its upcoming SUVs and trucks on October 24 in Nashville, Tennessee, exactly 44 years since the last Scout II rolled off the production line.
While we don’t know exactly what Scout will show off, it seems like they’re keeping their promise of launching with two vehicles. In a Facebook post, Scout teased their new SUV and truck concepts, saying they’re “hard at work crafting” something special for their loyal community.
One thing we do know is that Scout will debut an SUV and a pickup truck. We’ve caught glimpses of teaser images that hint at design elements paying homage to the original Scouts from the ’60s and ’70s. But that’s about it – the rest remains under wraps.
What’s more interesting is that neither of these vehicles will be built on any existing Volkswagen platform. According to Scout’s CEO, Scott Keogh, they’ll use some VW components, like electric motors, and likely some interior tech, but the electric body-on-frame platform will be unique to Scout. It’s also possible that Scout will borrow some platform architecture from Rivian, thanks to a multi-billion-dollar deal between VW and Rivian.
Scout might have even teased the two vehicle names in their Facebook post, using hashtags like “scout80,” “scout800,” and “scoutii.” The Scout 80 was the brand’s original model, and the Scout 800 debuted a few years later with some upgraded features. So, I’m wondering if the new models will be called the Scout and Scout II, with two trim levels, 80 and 800.
It’ll be interesting to see how close to production the two concept cars are, as production is set to begin in 2026. I guess we’ll find out on October 24.
