Samsung Unveils XR Glasses Teaser at Unpacked 2023, Software Platform Coming Soon
The Wait for Samsung’s AR Glasses Just Got Longer: New Details Emerge on the XR Glasses
For quite some time, there have been rumors about Samsung’s plans to launch a pair of AR glasses, dubbed XR glasses. If a recent report from Korea is anything to go by, we may have to wait a bit longer – maybe until the Galaxy S25 launch in January – to see these innovative glasses in action.
Initially, it’s not going to be a hands-on experience. It might just be a video or image presentation, which isn’t exactly what we were expecting. It seems Samsung is taking a leaf out of its own book, following a similar strategy to the Galaxy Ring’s teaser at Unpacked earlier this year.
If you recall, the Galaxy Ring was showcased in January but only got a full unveiling in July. History might repeat itself with the XR glasses. According to the industry, these AR spectacles are expected to hit the market in the third quarter of next year, specifically between July and September.
So, what do we know about these sleek, 50g glasses? They’re expected to resemble regular glasses, but with some Herriosque features. For starters, they’ll have payment capabilities, leveraging AI and facial recognition for secure transactions. The glasses will also come with smart technology to recognize hand gestures, allowing you to navigate the UI with ease.
Samsung has been working on the XR glasses in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm since February 2023. Before these glasses make their debut, the company is reportedly planning to announce its XR software platform by the end of this month.
