Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra vs Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra: Which Flagship Tablet Dominates?
Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra vs Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra: A Comprehensive Comparison
Samsung has unveiled the new top-end Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra, but how does it stack up against its predecessor, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra? While the new tablet may not boast a complete redesign, there are refinements and improvements that set it apart.
Pricing and Availability
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra comes with a premium price tag, starting at £1,199/$1,199 for the 256GB/12GB combination, with the top-end 1TB/16GB variant priced at £1,549/$1,549. Adding 5G connectivity costs an additional £150/$150. It’s available for pre-order now, with a release date of October 4, 2024.
The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra shares the same RRP, but we expect to see discounts on the older model as retailers clear out stock to make room for the new tablet.
Design and Display
The Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra is slightly thinner and lighter than its predecessor, measuring 5.4mm vs 5.5mm and weighing 723g compared to the Tab S9 Ultra’s 739g. It also boasts enhanced Armor Aluminium, increasing the shell’s hardness by 10% for improved durability. However, the design itself remains largely the same, with the same massive 14.6-inch Super AMOLED 2X screen and support for the S Pen with rear-facing magnetic attachment.
Improved Display Tech
Both tablets feature an enormous, pixel-packed 14.6-inch Super AMOLED 2X screen, making them ideal for binging Netflix or multitasking with an optional keyboard accessory. The difference lies in the slight boost in display tech, which may only become apparent when running processor-hungry apps and games.
More Advanced Galaxy AI Features
The Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra boasts more advanced Galaxy AI features, thanks to the boosted NPU in its 2024 Snapdragon and Dimensity chipsets. Exclusive features like Portrait Studio and Sketch to Image are available only on the new tablet. The S Pen also benefits from enhanced AI capabilities, with Sketch to Image, Smart Select, and Air Command all supported.
Larger Battery
The Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra features a larger 11,200mAh battery, which should provide improved battery life, although the exact difference will depend on our full benchmarking tests.
Early Verdict
The Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra may not offer a significant upgrade over the Tab S9 Ultra, but it’s not designed to appease Tab S9 Ultra owners. Instead, it enhances the premium experience with faster performance, more capable AI smarts, and a slightly thinner, lighter design for those new to the Galaxy Tab Ultra collection.
