Lamborghini’s Heritage Division Won’t Create Restoration-Grade Countach or Miura
In 2024, Lamborghini set a new delivery record, with 10,687 cars finding a home, a 6% increase from the 10,112 delivered in 2023. The company’s classic models are becoming increasingly sought-after, with the Gallardo included on Hagerty’s 2025 Bull Market List and the Countach 25th Anniversary appearing on the 2024 Bull Market List. This has led many to wonder if Lamborghini’s in-house restoration department, Polo Storico, might offer continuation cars.
Polo Storico’s Unique Approach
Imagine a new Countach with an à la carte menu of options ranging from period-correct features to equipment crossing into restomod territory. Unfortunately, Polo Storico won’t create such a car. In an interview, Giuliano Cassataro, the head of service for Polo Storico, explained that the department is focused on preserving the originality of the cars, rather than modifying them to suit modern tastes.
Restoration-Grade Projects
Polo Storico won’t fit a touchscreen and parking sensors to your Miura, but there’s nearly no limit to the size of the project it’s willing to take on. Cassataro noted that customers sometimes spend twice the car’s value on its restoration, demonstrating the passion and dedication that drives these projects.
The Focus on Originality
This outlook is crucial, as newer and more common models (such as the Gallardo) will ultimately fall within the scope of Polo Storico. Cassataro emphasized that the department’s goal is to preserve the past, rather than modify it to suit modern tastes. "Everything that we do will one day be history. We don’t want to modify the past," he said.
