Revolutionizing Global Connectivity: Vodafone Makes Historic Satellite Video Call with Standard Phone

Vodafone Unveils Global Satellite Video Call Capability

Hitting a new milestone in ending frustrating cellular ‘dead zones,’ Vodafone recently announced the achievement of "the world’s first space video call" using a standard mobile phone in an area with no cell coverage.

These video calls demoed by Starlink and T-Mobile last year were limited to text messages; Vodafone has taken it further, enabling actual video calls made through X, a satellite link that doesn’t require any physical modifications to existing networks.

As a result of this innovation, satellite connectivity on mobile devices isn’t just confined to emergency messages. The latest technology aims to eliminate "dead zones" – areas with sparse cell coverage and slow internet connection speeds – offering users seamless network experiences, from remote areas and vast stretches of surrounding sea.
