Revolutionize Your Note-Taking: Galaxy Z Fold 7’s Game-Changing S Pen Transformation into an Apple Pencil

Samsung Tackles S Pen issue in Galaxy Z Fold 7: A New Era in Foldable Technology

Thinner, yet Better: Samsung’s Latest Innovation in Foldable Technology

Samsung’s latest efforts to make its foldable devices thinner and more user-friendly have led to a new report suggesting the company is planning to revamp the way the Galaxy Z Fold series interacts with the S Pen. This transformation is aimed at addressing the thickness issue that arose with the previous Galaxy Z Fold "Special Edition," which sacrificed S Pen support for thinner design.

Lessons from Apple

To tackle this challenge, Samsung is reportedly turning to Apple’s active electrostatic (AES) technology, used in the iPad series. Unlike the electromagnetic resonance (EMR) digitizer currently employed by Samsung, AES technology requires electricity to be generated by the stylus (S Pen) itself, rather than the display assembly. This means that the S Pen will need to have a battery to create the electric field, introducing a new power management aspect to the device.

S Pen 2.0: Thinner, Lighter, and More Convenient

This change comes with some benefits, including a switch to a titanium backplate behind the display, replacing the current carbon fiber material that was previously used to avoid interference with the digitizer. This new design allows for a thinner and more sleek silhouette, while maintaining the S Pen’s functionality.

The Verdict: A New Era in Foldable Technology

The Galaxy Z Fold 7, expected to debut in 2025, will likely incorporate this innovative S Pen technology, offering a more refined and user-friendly experience. With the elimination of power source concerns and the introduction of a new battery-powered stylus, the S Pen is poised to become more mainstream and desirable. While the extra charging requirement may present a minor inconvenience, the upgrade’s benefits will likely outweigh this drawback.
