Reviving a Lost Twitter Classic: Bluesky’s Refreshed Notification System

Bluesky’s Trending Topics: A Game-Changer for Staying Up-to-Date on Current Events

The highly-anticipated social network Bluesky has just launched its much-anticipated trending topics feature, designed to help users keep up with breaking news, big sports, politics, and cultural events. This new feature is a significant step towards helping users navigate the fast-paced world of online news and discussions.

A Different Approach to Trending Content

Unlike other social media platforms, Bluesky has avoided a heavily algorithmic approach, instead opting for a decentralized system. While this approach has its advantages, it can make it more challenging for users to stay informed about the latest happenings. The new trending topics feature aims to address this issue, providing users with a curated list of popular topics and discussions.

How the Feature Works

The trending topics feature is currently in beta and can be accessed via the Bluesky app. To find it, simply tap the search icon at the bottom of the app or click on the right sidebar on the desktop version. The feature is already displaying popular topics like Christmas, St. Stephen, Beyoncé, and Japan Airlines.

Personalization and User Control

What’s more, users can control their experience by unchecking the "Enable trending topics" button in Settings > Content and Media. Alternatively, they can remove the Trending tab from the search bar by tapping the ‘x’ button.

Future Developments

Bluesky has promised that this is just the beginning for the trending topics feature, with plans to refine it and improve it in the coming months. Mute words will also be transferred to trending topics, and the feature will be available in English only for now.

User Feedback

While the feature has received a mixed response from some users, with one commenter stating, "Twitter turned into a cesspool because people started to manipulate the algorithm and pushed bad actor accounts to the top of everyone’s feed," the community is open to feedback.
