Revamped and Revitalized: Alienware’s Legendary Area 51 Gaming PCs and Laptops Reborn at CES 2025
Alienware Brings Back the Heat with the Return of Area 51 Gaming PCs and Laptops
Gaming enthusiasts, rejoice! Alienware is reviving its iconic Area 51 gaming brand, a staple of the 1990s and early 2000s, with the relaunch of the Area 51 gaming PCs and laptops at CES 2025. The brand’s return marks a significant milestone in the world of gaming, as the legendary Area 51 line is back in the spotlight with a fresh twist.
The Evolution of Alienware’s Gaming Lineup
Before the Area 51 revamp, Alienware had continued to innovate with the X-series, M-series, and unbranded laptops, ranging from 11.6 to 18 inches. The Aurora line has dominated the desktop scene since the Area 51 desktop was discontinued. Now, laptops will take on the Area 51 name, alongside the refreshed desktop line. This strategic move signifies a major shift towards a unified brand identity.
The Return of the Iconic Desktop Line
The new Area 51 desktop resurrects the classic PC component heads design, boasting an 80L capacity and upgradability integrated into the chassis and component design. This innovation ensures seamless upgrades and modification possibilities. The PC also features a positive pressure airflow design, which vents hot air out the back of the case without relying on an exhaust fan, reducing noise while under load.
The CPU is equipped with AIO liquid cooling, available with 360mm or 240mm radiators, leaving plenty of space for a 420mm radiator upgrade. With up to 64GB DDR5-6400 RAM, 8TB storage, and an Nvidia RTX 5080 graphics card, the available configurations will cater to various gaming needs.
Alienware Area 51 Laptops
Meanwhile, the Area 51 laptops will come in 16-inch and 18-inch sizes, boasting up to an Intel Core Ultra 285HX processor and Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU, with a total power profile of 280W. To tackle the heat generated by this powerful combination, the chassis has been redesigned to improve airflow by up to 37% while being about 15% quieter.
Design and Aesthetics
The Area 51 laptops feature a stunning underglow beneath the keyboard, courtesy of the bottom RGB fan, in addition to the RGB lighting on the keys themselves. This sleek design not only enhances the visual appeal but also provides an immersive gaming experience.
Storage and Availability
The Area 51 laptops will support PCIe 5.0 SSDs, configurable up to 12TB, making it a great option for gamers who need ample storage space. As for pricing, expect to pay around $3,200 (about £2,560/AU$4,800) for high-end configurations, with more affordable options arriving later in 2025, starting at approximately $1,999 (about £1,600/AU$3,000).
Get ready to dive back into the world of Alienware’s iconic gaming brand, as the Area 51 returns to the gaming scene with a bang.
