Rescue Mission in Extreme Conditions: Stuck Ford Super Duty in Antarctica Needs a Lifeline

The Never-Ending Saga of a Power Stroke Diesel: An Expedition’s Struggle to Keep Rolling

As I scroll through my Facebook feed, I’m met with a familiar sight – yet another friend’s vehicle has broken down in the middle of nowhere. But this time, it’s not just another roadside drama; it’s a special situation. Andrew Comrie-Picard, a well-known racing driver and car enthusiast, is stuck with his 2023 Ford Super Duty, a behemoth of a truck powered by the new 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel engine. His situation is a bit more complicated, as he’s currently 700 miles from the South Pole.

The Post

As I flipping through the pages of my feed, I come across Andrew’s post, showcasing a Power Stroke diesel Ford that refuses to start. It’s accompanied by an IFrames link to a post on his Facebook page. The post reveals that the issue lies in the crankshaft and camshaft sensors, which are showing no sync. Andrew’s diagnostic tools, including ForScan, are unable to resolve the problem.

A Special Challenge

Andrew Comrie-Picard is not just any average driver; he’s part of the Transglobal Car Expedition team, a group dedicated to circumnavigating the globe with four-wheel vehicles. The team has been on an epic journey, with a three-week voyage by ship to reach Antarctica. Their journey has just begun, with their vehicles still in the early stages of their adventure.

Why is this particular challenge so unique? Well, their vehicles are designed to run on Jet A1 fuel, a high-resistance fuel that’s perfect for the extreme conditions of the South Pole. However, this high-resistance fuel can cause issues with the fuel system, leading to the very problem Andrew is facing.

Breaking Down in the wilderness is a common fear, but with the right tools and expertise, even the most seemingly insurmountable challenge can be overcome. Let’s delve deeper into the world of vehicle diagnostics and repair, where even experts like Andrew Comrie-Picard don’t always have a smooth ride.
